Shadow Print (Sun Prints)

Shadow prints are made outside on a bright, sunny day

when there is little or no wind.

You take white cotton fabric, dampen it, and paint it in whatever colour you fancy.  Then you lay items on the cloth.  I like ferns and leaves.  As the sun dries the fabric

the colour is pulled away from underneath the item you laid on the wet cloth, leaving the shadow of the item.

Shadow prints are not very crisp if a cloud goes over the sun while the fabric is drying.  If the wind comes up and moves the items, it won't be crisp, but it could be mysterious.

I will try to remember to name the items that were used to cause the shadow.
